The year was 1947. The American Armed forces came home, two years prior, from the European and pacific theaters victorious — making the world safe once again for democracy. America was heading into its greatest boom years of a car in every garage.

The beloved Volvo P1800 is back, but this time with a steel-and-carbon-fiber body, independent and fully adjustable chassis, and 420 horsepower from its 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The County of Monterey, California, has cancelled its contract with the Historic Motorsports Association to operate the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Weather Tech Raceway Laguna Seca, according to an announcement by Laguna Seca and HMSA president Cris Vandagriff.

The oldest licensed automobile in Germany is, of course, a Benz, which also claims to be the oldest street-legal car in the world. The Video of the Day shows the 1894 Benz Victoria runabout taking what appears to be a brisk drive, its driver/caretaker describing the experience along the way.
