The second trailer for “Raised By Wolves,” Ridley Scott’s new science fiction project for HBO Max, quietly tiptoed onto the internet Monday (Aug. 24). And if you weren’t intrigued by the first teaser that dropped just over a week ago, this new (and significantly longer) one is guaranteed to get […]
Scientists Recreate the Density of a White Dwarf in the Lab
The density of a white dwarf star defies our imagination. A spoonful of white dwarf matter would weigh as much as a car on Earth. Atoms within the star are squeezed so tightly that they are on the edge of collapse. Squeeze a white dwarf just a bit more, and […]
Ground segment testing a success for James Webb Space Telescope
Testing teams have successfully completed a critical milestone focused on demonstrating that NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope will respond to commands once in space.
Sorry to inform you an asteroid will not be taking out Earth right before Election Day
Headlines abound this week about an asteroid heading toward Earth at perhaps the most opportune time during a terrible year: November 2nd, the day before the presidential election. It sounds too good to be true — an asteroid to wipe us all out before what will surely be a very […]

SpaceX fires up SN6 Starship rocket prototype ahead of potential test flight
SpaceX has fired up the latest prototype of its Starship Mars-colonizing spacecraft, keeping the vehicle on track for a possible test flight this weekend.
Neural networks show potential for identifying gamma rays detected by the Cherenkov telescope array
With the Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) that is currently under construction, researchers hope to observe highly energetic gamma rays that could lead to the discovery of new objects in and outside of our galaxy and even unravel the mystery of dark matter. However, identifying these gamma rays is not easy. […]
New large optically bright supernova remnant discovered
Astronomers have reported the discovery of a new galactic supernova remnant (SNR) in the Cepheus constellation. The newly detected SNR is relatively large and optically bright, but faint in radio and X-ray bands. The finding is detailed in a paper published August 13 on the arXiv pre-print repository.
